16 Years Of PDP Rule Destroyed Southeast — Onunkwor

Chief convener of the G23 group of the Southeast geo-political zone Engr. JohnBosco Obinna Onunkwor has said that the 16 years of the Peoples Democratic Party rule in the country destroyed the Southeast region.

Onunkwor said the Igbo nation has been at the corridor of power and at the chambers of power from 1999 to 2015 but apparently did not benefit anything from the PDP government for 16 years.

He made the above statements in Awka on Monday while addressing journalists on the essence of the group.

Onunkwor explained that after many years of being forlorn by the PDP-led federal government, President Muhammadu Buhari came and commenced work on the Enugu-Onitsha highway, Enugu-Okigwe highway, Okigwe-Umuahia road, Umuahia-Aba road as well as Aba-Port Harcourt road.

He equally noted that the Buhari administration continued work on the Second Niger Bridge and also launched the N-power school feeding programme emphasising that Buhari was the only Nigerian president that gave bailout funds to governors to pay workers’ salaries in spite of party affiliations.

According to him, Buhari has off-set the bills of Biafran soldiers dead or alive and was poised to redeem the southeast region from political alienation and self-marginalisation.

Onunkwor said the Buhari administration has met the expectations of Nigerians and that the president has done tremendously well especially in the areas of security, revamping the economy  as well as chasing Boko Haram insurgents into the abyss, adding that the president’s infrastructural development was also legendary judging from the number of federal projects executed and on-going in the southeast states.

The chief convener of the G23 group also took cognisance of the fact that Buhari diversified the nation’s economy such that the country no longer placed so much premium on oil but has also seen the importance of agriculture and other viable sectors of the nation’s economy.

He noted that G23 group X-rayed the activities of President Buhari and unanimously decided to support the president for another term of office adding that the president will bury a lot of vampires sucking the nation’s wealth through conduit pipe.

Onunkwor who explained that G23 was an amalgamation of technocrats who carefully observed the present APC-led federal government and gave a pass mark to it on account of its visible achievements in the last 3 years, maintained that the group has no political affiliations whatsoever but an independent observer that has monitored and assessed the impact of the policies and programmes of the Buhari administration on Nigerians since inception.

He said one of the cardinal objectives of G23 was to educate Nigerians not to depend on the stipend politicians gave them but ensure that they exercised their franchise without pecuniary interest.

According to him, it was time youths took active part in the governance of the nation especially as the president has assented to the ‘Not Too Young To Run Bill’ which he noted conferred legitimate powers on youths to contest elective positions in the country.
