By Raymond Ozoji, Awka
The Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) says Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo deserves commendations and not condemnations for the periods he has spent in office so far.
Speaking with our correspondent in his office at the Government House Awka, ASATU national president, Chief Barr. Titus Nnabuike Akpudo, said Governor Soludo, who would be celebrating his two years anniversary on March 17, 2024, had recorded massive developmental strides; that rather than dwell in destructive criticisms, the governor should be encouraged to do more for Ndi-Anambra.
Akpudo, who X-rayed Soludo’s two years of stewardship in the state, said it was the first time in Anambra State that a governor awarded over 400 kilometers of roads and commissioning about 200 kilometers already. That the roads in question were not just roads but very solid roads with 20 years guarantee.
Akpudo recalled with hindsight that in 2011 he tried to visit Awba-Ofemili in Awka-North council area of the state for a burial ceremony, but could not complete the journey due to the very terrible state of the road then.
He said he was perplexed that a journey that took him almost 4 hours in 2011 and yet he could not complete it; took him less than 22 minutes on average speed of 60 when he plied the same road on March 14, 2024.
Akpudo noted that apart from employing teachers, the governor was paying them their salaries. That in agriculture, apart from planting trees, farmers equally got financial empowerments to boost their agricultural activities.
He said Governor Soludo empowered 5000 youths with economic skills irrespective of whether the beneficiaries were of Anambra origin coupled with appointment of permanent secretaries recently where a Yoruba man and an Abia man became permanent secretaries in Anambra State.
He said as the governor marked his 2nd anniversary, ASATU wished him good health to enable him to continue his good works for the people. Akpudo however urged opposition elements not to dwell in negative propaganda but be more constructive in their criticisms as it helped the government in power to be alive to its responsibilities.
