Raymond Ozoji, Awka
Sen. Andy Uba, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 6 Anambra governorship election has been declared unelectable and unfit to govern the state by the special adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on political matters, Barr. Ifeatu Obiokoye.
Obiokoye, who made the declaration in his office at the Government House Awka while reacting to Abubakar Malami’s call for a state of emergency in Anambra state over insecurity, maintained that he knew the antecedents of the APC governorship candidate from his childhood days in Enugu state where he grew up.
The legal luminary alleged that the APC governorship candidate did not complete his secondary school education at Union Secondary School Enugu where they were contemporaries.
He said the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, cannot force Andy Uba on the people of Anambra state irrespective of the level of conspiracy and clandestine moves to achieve what he described as evil plots.
Obiokoye said, “Andy Uba knows he cannot win the state. He knows he is unelectable. He knows nobody can vote for him. So all he and the Attorney General of the Federation are plotting is how to capture this state by force.
“All the stakeholders of this state are meeting. The Ohaneze will issue a statement soon. President Generals of town unions and elders of the state will speak on the matter. This is our state and nobody from Abuja will come and disorganise it for us.
“How can somebody of my generation who could not pass school cert in Union Secondary School Enugu govern a state where more qualified governors like Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, Dr.Chris Ngige, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Mr. Peter Obi and Dr. Willie Obiano have built sustainable legacies?
“I know him very well. So it’s a shame that in my generation someone who could not pass his school cert would be a threat to the governance of Anambra state. Now we are bringing in the former Central Bank Governor; first class though, and we are bringing Andy Uba to come and contest the future of this state.
“We have forgotten that in this state, there was a Justice Kizor Commission of Inquiry about the burning of Anambra state. They indicted a few people including Andy Uba for being responsible and I testified in that inquiry in camera as the state chairman of PDP then.
“History is repeating itself again. The same character is interested in the governorship of Anambra state; private and public buildings are going up in flames suddenly. People are being killed suddenly. Government offices, Central police stations are being burnt down all for the ambition of a few people.
“What Governor Willie Obiano has gone to Villa to do is very clear because we know that Mr. President is not aware of what is happening. It’s a small clique led by the Attorney General of the Federation bent on imposing Andy Uba on the people of Anambra state. They should understand that a lot of us have been around and we are going to resist it.
“At 64, I’m no longer afraid of death especially if it involves protection of the lives of the people, dignity and honour of the people of Anambra state, I will be one of the first persons to stake my life. I say it with every sense of responsibility that enough is enough. Anambra governorship election will hold and APGA will win resoundingly.”
