Anambra Activates 219 Centres For COVID-19 Vaccination

Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Health, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi, says the state government has installed Solar Direct Drive Refrigerators in over 270 primary health care facilities for the maintenance of cold chain and vaccines.
Onyemaechi stated this during an exclusive interview with our correspondent in Awka.
He explained that having invested heavily on Solar Direct Drive Refrigerators, the governor also launched an Oxygen Plant ahead of the Federal Government who just directed that one oxygen plant be built across the 36 states of the federation.
The governor’s aide further disclosed that the aforementioned oxygen plant has helped tremendously in the management of COVID-19 such that people from Asaba, Delta State, and other parts of the country ran to Anambra to buy oxygen for their patients outside the southeast zone.
He also said that the state government procured 2 cold trucks for the transportation of the COVID-19 vaccines to interior villages where the primary health care facilities have been been equipped with Solar Direct Drive Refrigerators for the preservation and maintenance of  cold chain and potency of vaccines.
According to him, government has mapped out about 219 centres for COVID-19 vaccination and all the centres have Solar Direct Drive Refrigerators, stressing that government would deploy COVID-19 volunteer structures for electronic capturing and registration.
He said health workers were being retrained to manage vaccines preparatory to the innoculation proper, adding that the vaccination would be done in 4 phases beginning with first line responders, secondly all health care workers, third, those above 50 years of age and fourthly, the general public.
Onyemaechi however enjoined Ndi-Anambra to embrace the COVID-19 vaccine because it is safe and the surest way to avoid a total lockdown of the nation’s economy.
The Special Adviser on Health also pointed out that sensitisation with stakeholders in the society was ongoing to educate them on the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccines and why it is of paramount importance that they got vaccinated to stay alive and stay safe from the killer coronavirus disease.
