Anambra Assembly Renews Tenure Of Transition Committee Chairmen

The Anambra State House of Assembly on Jan. 25 renewed the tenure of the Transition Committee Chairmen of the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state for another three months.

This is in line with Section 208 of the Local Government Law 1999 as amended and as requested by Gov. Willie Obiano in his letter to the Assembly for consideration of the nominees for election as Caretaker Committee Chairmen into the 21 LGAs of the state.

The House renewed their tenure during an emergency plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Mr Uchenna Okafor on Jan. 25. Mr Okafor, read out their confirmation, while members of the House supported it through voice votes.

The lawmakers had at the ‘Committee of the Whole’, screened the nominated Transition Committee Chairmen of the 21 LGAs of the State before they were unanimously adopted at the plenary by the House.

In his speech shortly after their confirmation, the Speaker, Mr Okafor urged the Transition Committee Chairmen to continue to execute projects that would  impact on the lives of their constituents.

“I urge you to assist the State Government in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic by sensitising your people on the dangers of the deadly disease and its preventive measures,” Okafor counseled.

Responding on behalf of his colleagues, the Transition Committee Chairman, Idemili North LGA, Mr Raphael Nnabuife commended the House for extending their tenure while assuring their continued support to Gov. Obiano led-administration. (MOI)
