Former President-General, Ifitedunu Town Union, Dunukofia local government area of Anambra state, Chief Samuel Nweke, has accused the Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Matters, Hon. Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, of reinstating his bosom friend, Chief Uchenna Oragwuncha Nwoye, as President-General Ifitedunu Town Union.
Chief Nweke, who made the accusation in Awka while speaking with journalists, said the Commissioner told them point blank that he has made a memo to Governor Soludo where he stated in clear terms that Uchenna Oragwuncha Nwoye would be reinstalled as PG irrespective of whatever happens thereafter.
Nweke explained that the decision of the Local Government Commissioner was prejudiced as the Commissioner did not invite all the parties to hear from them before arriving at his conclusion to reinstall his said bosom friend as PG of Ifitedunu town union.
He said such decision was not in the best and overall interest of the people of Ifitedunu because according to him, rather than bring peace, it will further escalate crisis in the town.
Nweke however pointed out that all the allegations levelled against him by the traditional ruler of Ifitedunu, His Majesty Igwe Emeka Ilouno, were all false and unfounded, saying that the traditional ruler employed all forms of malevolence to rubber stamp him when he was the President-General to enable him to have unlimited and unhindered access to embezzling community project funds.
According to him, his insistence that community funds would not be embezzled or syphoned by anyone under his watch as the PG Ifitedunu Town Union resulted in the traditional ruler plotting all manner of evil against him just to make sure that the entire town was uncomfortable and ungovernable for him.
The former PG who produced evidence of detailed accounts and expenditures under his watch as well as displayed pictures of the completed Ifitedunu Civic Center project under his watch and other laudable projects, challenged the traditional ruler and his cronies to invite the EFCC to investigate him and see if he will not be vindicated by the anti-graft agency, adding that the Ifitedunu Civic Center project was abandoned for more than 47 years but he came in and completed the project.
He also added that he was being accused of having embezzled a certain 40 Million Naira while in office and igniting crisis in Ifitedunu town. Chief Nweke again challenged Igwe Emeka Ilouno and his cronies to prove the existence of such money and where the details were documented.
Chief Nweke said, “We heard a rumour that the Commissioner wanted to reinstate Uchenna Nwoye Oragwuncha without informing anybody. So we moved to Government House to find out. We met the Commissioner and he told us point blank that Uchenna Nwoye is his bosom friend and he has written a memo to the governor in favour of Uchenna Nwoye.
“And we asked him, did you call us to know what the problem is before taking a decision? He told us that he has done his part; that it is left for the governor to rule on the matter.”
The former PG noted that those who were gruesomely injured and killed in the heat of Ifitedunu town union crisis were seeking for justice and that the traditional ruler was not helping to calm the situation instead he thrived in divide and rule system.
According to him, Igwe Emeka Ilouno was one of the traditional rulers removed by Governor Willie Obiano due to his character. He also disclosed that Igwe Ilouno was sacked from being the Chairman of the Governing Board of Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital Amaku Awka; that no President-General in Ifitedunu has ever worked with him in peace.
The former PG who said Uchenna Oragwuncha Nwoye has over 12 cases in court, implored Governor Soludo to look into Ifitedunu Town Union squabbles as people were currently seeking justice for evil meted out on them.
He said, “There is no peace yet in Ifitedunu because the people whose hands and legs were cut off including those who were killed are seeking justice. We don’t know what they have in their minds. So we appeal to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo to look into Ifitedunu Town Union crisis because there is no peace yet.”
