The Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Paschal Arinzechukwu Agbodike, has extolled Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s response to the blight cast on Anambra citizens affected by this year’s flood disaster.
Agbodike, who praised the governor and his wife for attending to the needs of the victims of the deluge in their various camps,  said the magnitude of the flood this year was not something the Anambra State Government could handle singlehandedly; hence the need for the federal government as well as other national and international humanitarian organisations to come to the aid of the victims to cushion the devastating effects of the flood.
The Deputy Speaker, who spoke on the floor of the Hallowed Chambers of the state assembly during plenary, held that the governor was compassionate about the plights of the flood victims and was equally working assiduously to ameliorate the situation and also alleviate their sufferings.
He said some of his constituents at Ubahudara-Okija and Akwa-Ihiala were terribly affected by the flood but government according to him, was doing its utmost to ensure that the victims of the flood across the state get relief materials and other supports in the interim pending when the flood receded.
Agbodike said, “The people of Ubahudara-Okija and Akwa-Ihiala have totally been submerged by flood. The majority of the people in those areas are farmers. All their crops including buildings have been watched away by flood. But I am also aware that some relief materials have been given to some areas and our people are calling for more relief materials.
“I believe and I know that the very sensible and responsible government of Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo will do something more to assist the flood affected areas. Also the federal government should come to our aid in Anambra state because the magnitude of this flood is too devastating and catastrophic.
“He however mentioned that one of the remote causes of flooding and land erosions were blockage of drainage and water channels. That he was privileged to tour Okpoko community, one of the foremost urban slums in the state, on road inspection with the governor and it was discovered that most of the drainages in Okpoko have been filled up with refuse and dirts and the governor has equally declared the dredging of Sarcamori in the area to mitigate flooding in Okpoko community.”
Agbodike maintained that there was need for drainage systems to be desilted across the state to allow free flow of water through channels created for that purpose to eliminate flooding and other forms of environmental degradations while admonishing the citizenry to adopt friendly attitudes to their surroundings in order to achieve a liveable, lovable and prosperous new Anambra state under Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
