Indigenes of Anambra-East state constituency of Anambra state have vowed to deploy all the arsenals within their disposal to foil the 2019 ambition of the incumbent member representing the constituency in the 6th Anambra State House of Assembly.
The people stormed the state assembly complex to witness the appointment as well as the pronouncement of one Mr. Cyril Okafor who they concurred was the people’s choice for the chairmanship position for Anambra-East council area but to their utmost dismay and consternation, the state assembly stepped down the said Cyril Okafor, following the insistence of the lawmaker representing Anambra-East constituency Hon.Obinna Chris Emeneka who purportedly refused to consent to the approval of the nominee on the grounds of allegations of financial impropriety as well as accusing lawmakers of embezzling constituency funds in the social media.
Some of the indigenes who bared their minds on the issue told journalists in Awka that the actions and uterances of the lawmaker were insurbodination as well as an affront to the state governor who they said submitted his name to the state assembly for confirmation and approval.
Hon. Frank Epundu who represents Nsugbe ward 2 in the Anambra-East local government council posited that irrespective of whatever grievances the lawmaker has against Cyril Okafor, the entire local government has vowed to stand by him to the chagrin of the lawmaker pointing out that the lawmaker’s presence at the state assembly has not brought any dividend to the constituency in the last seven years.
Epundu equally stated that there was no proof to the fact that Cyril Okafor was a fraudster as he believed that government does not appoint rogues as representatives of the people.
He further disclosed that the people of Anambra-East constituency are in full surport of Cyril Okafor and that one individual can not subvert the will of the people.
Moreso, Hon.Uche Anizo the counsellor representing Umuoba-Anam ward in the Anambra-East local government council alleged that due to the lawmaker’s ambition to contest for the Anambra-East and West federal constituency seat in the 2019 general elections, he was hellbent on ensuring that he scuttled Cyril Okafor’s chairmanship nomination so that the latter, according to him, would not instigate the people of Anambra-East against him to truncate his political ambition.
Anizo also corroborated what other people said, saying that the incumbent member representing Anambra-East constituency has abandoned the constituency he swore to represent qualitatively noting that none of the communities in the area could attest to the impact of his representation at the state assembly since his inauguration as member representing Anambra-East state constituency in the 6th legislature.
Contributing also, Nsugbe ward 2 chairman Hon. Chukwuka Nathaniel opined that the likes of the incumbent should not represent the constituency anymore at the state assembly and other spheres of governmental and political representation emphasizing that the seven years of his stewardship at the state assembly has no meaningful impact on Anambra-East constituency.
