The 7th legislature of Anambra state has summoned the state Commissioner for Education Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh to appear before the plenary session to explain what actually gave her the guts and audacity to rain insults and abuses on Ndi-Anambra in a democracy in spite of being a public servant.
The invitation of the Education Commissioner to the state assembly was prompted by the motion moved by the House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Education and member representing Anaocha two state constituency Hon. Ejike Okechukwu.
Ebele Ejiofor of Anaocha one state constiuency in his opinion wondered why over 1000 teachers recruited by the Willie Obiano administration and issued appointment letters were sacked by the current government despite the fact that the teachers had worked for seven months without salaries.
Ejiofor argued that most of the sacked teachers showed their appointment letters to lawmakers and that the reasons for sacking them had not really been ascertained. He said that the Education Commissioner has to explain to the legislature beyond all reasonable doubts why the teachers were sacked from their jobs given the harsh economic situation in the country.
The lawmaker said that the Education Commissioner made very bad utterances against Ndi-Anambra and that she must appear before the elected representatives of the state assembly to defend her rash statements.
He said Ndi-Anambra voted for Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo and there was no reason whatsoever the commissioner should insult the people by virtue of her position as a public office holder.
Ejiofor said the commissioner should be blamed for whatever transpired in the conduct of the teachers’recruitment examination, pointing out that if the process was well organized, there would be no complaints as many applicants according to him complained bitterly about the epileptic nature of the computers used for the recruitment test.
Ejiofor also noted that irrespective of the fact that government claimed to have apologized on her behalf, it was imperative that the commissioner appeared before the state assembly to enable lawmakers to hear from her directly to know what gave her the courage to insult Ndi-Anambra the way she did.
The lawmaker said even if she was insulted by applicants, it was her duty as a public office holder to comport herself as one working in the public service rather than throwing caution to the wind which he said was unfit for her as a commissioner.
The Anambra State House of Assembly has invited the Education Commissioner to appear before its plenary session on Thursday this week to explain why citizens who voted for Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo should be insulted and called hooligans because they were seeking employment.
