Anambra state government has embarked on active search for persons with Covid-19 symptoms in all the communites in the state.
Governor Willie Obiano disclosed this yesterday during a special statewide broadcast on Covid-19 update.
He said that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), WHO and UNICEF have assured the state government of their support to ensure the success of the effort.
Governor Obiano therefore implored citizens of the state especially those in the rural communities to cooperate with the specially trained Covid-19 team that would come to the hinterlands to collect samples for testing, noting that the team comprised competent medical professionals who can manage any case to success.
The governor also informed the people that government has set up two potential Covid-19 testing Centres in the state and that the state earnestly requested the management of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control to accredit as well as approve the facilities for the benefit of the people.
Although the governor noted that the state was gradually returning to normal life in spite of the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic, he maintained that all the boundaries with neighbouring states remained completely closed but emphasized that only those on essential services would be allowed entry after thorough checks and confirmations by security personnel stationed at the borders.
According to him, “We are working very hard to seal off all bush paths that are being exploited by unscrupulous transporters to the detriment of our beloved state.”
Governor Obiano equally informed the citizenry that all civil servants in Anambra state including primary and secondary school teachers would resume work next week Monday and that arrangements were ongoing to ensure that the teachers undergo a comprehensive Covid-19 training in readiness for the eventual opening of schools at the appropriate time.
He said all markets shall reopen for normal commercial activities from next Monday and that market leaders had also been trained on Covid-19 safety/preventive measures which they must deploy to ensure that friends, colleagues as well as customers comply with the standard protocols for Covid-19 prevention.
The governor who also alerted citizens to federal government’s proposed nationwide curfew from next Monday to halt the community spread of coronavirus across the country, enjoined citizens to compulsorily comply with the aforestated directives as enforcement would be carried out vigorously, stressing that to be forewarned is to be forewarned.
