Anambra Ex-Council Chairman To Sue Media House For Libel

Raymond Ozoji, Awka
Ex-council chairman of Orumba-North local government area of Anambra state Chief Emeka Aforka has said that he is prepared to take legal actions against one Ogene newspaper over what he termed malicious publication against his person because he is currently seeking to represent Orumba-North in the state assembly.
Aforka said he was not afraid of cheap blackmail from those he referred to as disgruntled elements in his area as he recalled that there was a time people blackmailed him through frivolous petitions but in the end, he was vindicated.
The former local government chairman who narrated his ordeals to our correspondent in Awka at the weekend, emphasized that because he was contesting for the Anambra State House of Assembly, some individuals due to alleged peanuts they were paid, decided to go into what happened in 2012 when his administration as local government chairman initiated the construction of one Aronota bridge.
Aforka explained that his administration secured approval for the construction of the said bridge and that the contractual documents were still in the custody of the local government council for reference purposes.
He said that external auditors as well as all other authorities had assessed and evaluated the project; that his antagonists should go to the treasury department of the local government area to trace the records about the bridge before destroying his reputation and goodwill in the media.
Aforka however assured the said media house that it would not excape the wrath of the law as his lawyers were currently studying the said newspaper publication, pointing out that Ogene newspaper must produce evidence that certain amount of money was embezzled and the bridge project abandoned.
He therefore demanded an unreserved apology from Ogene newspaper over the alleged blackmail and libelous publication intended to smear his reputation and public image, noting that if within two weeks the newspaper failed to retract it and inform the general public about the true records of the bridge in question, Ogene newspaper should prepare for a fierce legal battle.
