The victory of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the last gubernatoral election in Anambra has been describled as a vindication of it’s good governance in the area.
Similarly the introduction of the BIVAS voting system is a challenge on political parties and politicians to show not only capacity but popularity during elections.
Special Adviser to Gov Willie Obiano on Political matters Barr. Ifeatu Obiokoye stated this to reporters in Awka yesterday saying that the process was rigging proof.
He said, “When you understudy what happened at the election, you will discover that the election was a divine one that despite all the fears of violence, the sit-at- home order by IPOB and the expected voter apathy people on that day came out to vote.
“We also praise the federal institutions such as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the security operatives like police, DSS, Army and others for ensuring the security of lives and property.
“We also thank President Muhammadu Buhari for allowing a level playing ground for all candidates and political parties to take part in the election.
“This is an indication that the country’s democracy and politics are improving and a case in point is the BVAS machines which was introduced by INEC and what that means is that for you to win election you have to be not only popular but on ground with the electorate.
“The era of grabbing ballot boxes and causing commotion at every election is gone and should the electoral body continue this way then our democracy has come of age.
“Even those who had boasted that they have won the election or that the results have been written could not even win their wards and local government areas and at the end of the day the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, proved that they are on ground and has provided good governance for the people of Anambra state.”
The governor’s aide who also pointed out that the just concluded gubernatorial election should serve as a moral lesson for politicians desperate to clinch governmental powers by every means possible, stressed that the said election has proven that the will of the people prevails over primordial and parochial interests.
He also said that Anambra state has set the template for the conduct of credible and transparent elections in the country as evident in the way and manner the electoral umpire (INEC) handled the polls devoid of partisanship and favouritism.
