Raymond Ozoji, Awka

All is now set for the second phase of Hon. Edward Obiefuna Ibuzo’s constituency empowerment programme slated for 15th March, 2020.

Constituents of Onitsha-North 2 state constituency are expected to benefit from the tricycles, grinding machines, soft-loans and some other items that would be distributed on that day.

Speaking on his forthcoming enlarged Constituency Poverty Alleviation Scheme in Onitsha, Ibuzo said his actions were propelled by the experience of his late mother who went through thick and thin to raise himself and his siblings even as a widow.

Ibuzo stated that he began to see the cry and excruciating experience of widows early in life and it motivated him to set up a foundation called Hon. Edward Ibuzo Widowhood Foundation, a platform he and his wife use to care and cater for widows in the area.

He said about eight persons would be given interest-free soft-loans on the day of the empowerment programme to enable them to start their own businesses. While another five persons will go home with tricycles each.

The lawmaker said other categories of beneficiaries would be given vulcanising machines while some widows would go home with grinding machines. Others would take delivery of sewing machines and another set of people would smile home with freezers to boost their saloon business.

He therefore stressed that the empowerment programme was not specifically for indigenes of Onitsha-North 2 state constituency but the entire citizens resident in the area, noting that he does not discriminate against any person or group but believes that everyone should be beneficiaries of good representation irrespective of party affiliation.

Ibuzo who is currently the House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Environment further disclosed that apart from the items that would be distributed to his constituents, the occasion would equally provide veritable platform for him to present his scorecard to the people as well as obtain first hand information on the most pressing needs of the constituency.

According to him, chairmen of markets, Nigeria correctional service, the police and some other stakeholders have been invited to the expanded constituency empowerment programme even as he mentioned also that his computer training sessions had continued to empower youths with Information and Communication Technology skills coupled with the free  medical services his people enjoyed in the constituency clinic day in day out.
