Philanthropist and business mogul, Hon. Edward Obiefuna Ibuzo, who is also the lawmaker representing Onitsha-North two state constituency in the just constituted seventh legislature says his utmost concern is to produce one hundred millionaires in his constituency as part of his second term empowerment scheme. The German-based business magnate had in his first term carried out self-help programmes in Onitsha-North two constituency ranging from establishment of small and medium scale enterprises for constituents as well as provided succour and means of livelihood for widows, the poor and downtrodden. It is as a result of his humanistic approach to governmental and political representation anchored on the dire need to eliminate abject poverty and penury, that the lawmaker who, upon his inauguration into the seventh Anambra State House of Assembly for a second term of office, distributed brand new tricycles to his constituents together with other income-generating items for self-help purposes. He decided to operate on what he termed Speed Gear to fast track development through the empowerment and production of one hundred millionaires in Onitsha-North two constituency this time.
Ibuzo during an exclusive interview with our correspondent in Awka regarding his second term at the state assembly, recalled that in 2015 when he embarked on the journey to the Anambra State House of Assembly, he made a fervent promise to transform the lives of his constituents through consultative representation. Thus, his resolution gave birth to the opening of his constituency office where youths recieved free computer training and thereafter launched a medical centre with qualified medical personnel who administered medical services to his constituents without any cost implications. Also he undertook the renovation of Woliwo primary school as well as sank borehole water facility there in which currently serves the school and its neighborhood. The constituency projects mentioned here could be regarded as an infinitesimal portion of the numerous people-oriented projects he executed in his first term at the state assembly as the lawmaker representing Onitsha-North two state constituency. His commendable strides as a lawmaker endeared him to his constituents and eventually secured their confidence to serve them for another term in the legislature of Anambra state.
Be that as it may, Ibuzo also disclosed that he entered into another pact with his constituents as he begins his second term in the state house of assembly. This time, he said “in this our second tenure, I promised them that we are going to be on the speed gear and that is exactly what we have started from the first day we were inaugurated. Even the inauguration came with empowerment. I have opened my second constituency office and I am currently collaborating with an NGO called Living To Make Impact Foundation to teach my constituents the power of savings, the power of discipline as well as power to identify one’s innate potentials because there are a lot of people who don’t have vision and no matter how you empower this category of people, they will still come to zero.” The lawmaker explained that after the technical sessions with the NGO, he would also empower the beneficiaries with soft-loans without any interest attached to enable them to set up businesses in relation to their innate abilities and capacities for whatever they ventured into for the purposes eradicating poverty and wealth creation in his constituency. According to Ibuzo, “My target however is to produce hundred millionaires in Onitsha-North two constituency within the next four years and I mean it. So this is my mission for this second term.”
Ibuzo said that his Widows Foundation is equally empowering widows with life-line to enable them to fend for their families. Liver To Deliver Foundation is yet another foundation of his in partnership with an NGO currently delivering empowerment lectures to his constituents for self-sustenance stressing that all his empowerment and poverty alleviation schemes will be sustained even after his exit at the end of his second tenure at the state house of assembly. Other issues of urgent public concern were bad roads and erosion menace ravaging his constituency. To this end therefore, Ibuzo posited that he would sponsor bills that would further develop Anambra state as well as move motions that would accord Onitsha-North two state constituency the befitting status it deserves as the constituency harbouring the largest market in West Africa which is the Onitsha Main Market. He added that all his intentions would be met because he believes that promises made should be fulfilled for posterity sake.
