Tuesday 16th April was the fateful day the life of Hon. Frank-Anthony Igboka was cut short following his assassination by unknown gunmen who shot at him sporadically at close range at Oye market Nimo in Njikoka local government area of Anambra state.
Igboka who was a lawmaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly during Ex- Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju’s era was said to have been trailed by his killers to Oye market square Nimo where the daredevils were said to have pumped several gunshots making sure he died on the spot in his car.
Although the remote cause of the dastardly act has not been ascertained, the police account of the whole episode revealed that it was a calculated mission to terminate the life of the former lawmaker.
In accordance with the report released by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra state command of the Nigeria police SP Haruna Mohammed, it says that “at about 8:18 PM of Tuesday 16/4/2019 there was a sporadic gunshots around Nimo market in Njikoka local government area of Anambra state.
“Police patrol team attached to Nimo Division rushed to the scene and discovered one Chief Frank Anthony Igboka on the driver’s seat of his Chevrolet SUV vehicle lying unconscious in the pool of his blood and his body was riddled with bullet wounds.
“Victim was rushed to Beke hospital Nimo where he was confirmed dead by the medical doctor and corpse deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that victim was shot at close range by four armed men who escaped in a pick-up van towards Abacha Eziowele road. Twenty-five expended ammunition of 7.62 mm ammunition were recovered at the scene.
The commissioner of police CP Mustapha Dandaura has visited the scene and ordered for a full scale investigation to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident and bring perpetrators to justice.”
