The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra state has condemned the conduct and outcome of the just concluded Ekiti governorship election where Dr. Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressive Congress emerged winner.
The chairman of the party in the state Hon. Ndubisi Nwobu alleged that PDP won the governorship election in Ekiti state but the mandate was stolen by the APC which he said was desperate to win the election at all cost following intimidation, manipulations as well as subsequent removal PDP agents from collation centres across the state.
Nwobu who spoke with journalists at De Geogold hotel Awka on Tuesday, said the party will not accept defeat but would contest the said victory in court as the Ekiti election was a clear case of executive rascality adding that the party will assemble experts to critically examine the election results.
He however said that what played out at the Ekiti governorship will not dampen the spirit of PDP followers across the country; instead it will prepare them adequately for the presidential elections come February 2019; that owing to the failure of the APC-led federal government, Nigerians will subscribe to the Peoples Democratic Party to dethrone the ruling APC, adding that the PDP will not relent until victory was achieved and Nigerians heave a sigh of relief from maladministration and bad governance.
Nwobu observed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was no longer independent judging from what transpired at the Ekiti state governorship elections. He said the leadership of the electoral umpire was allegedly being teleguided by the ruling APC federal government and that truncated the electoral process adding that INEC and its cronies should think of the greater Nigerian project rather than parochial interest.
The Anambra state PDP chairman maintained that it was quite unfortunate that human lives have been made worthless under the APC administration of the country pointing out that it was heart-rendering to see innocent lives being massacred by suspected killer herdsmen across the country, yet the President has refused to pronounce killer herdsmen terrorist groups even though the presidency has already branded IPOB a terrorist group. He emphasized that the security of Nigerians could not be politicized while expressing the ability of the PDP to produce a credible candidate to clinch power in the 2019 presidential elections.
