The Anambra State Police Command has arrested the leader of Awka Central market in Anambra State, Emeka Agumadu, popularly known as “Baby Awka” for allegedly sponsoring cult-related killings in the area.
In a statement on Wednesday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, said Agumadu, who is a high chief in Awka, was arrested on Tuesday.
Mohammed said the Commissioner of Police in the State, John Abang, led the team that arrested the market leader and three others.
The statement read partly, “It would be recalled that on the 10th and 11/08/2019, there was a clash between two rival cult groups, the Black Axe and Vikings confraternities at Eckoka and Dike Park all in Awka South LGA of Anambra State where one Chinedu, surname yet unknown alias Nambo and Uche Anarah were brutally murdered.
“Following the incidents and while acting on credible intelligence, the command’s Puff Adder operatives led by the Commissioner of Police John Abang had on the 13/08/2019 around 4: 20 p.m. launched a manhunt for the hoodlums at Dike Park and Umukwa village areas of Awka, arrested four suspected sponsors/members of Black Axe and Vikings confraternities.”
He gave the names of the arrested as, Prince Collin Ozojiofor, Okechukwu Nwaneke, Nwankwo Chukwuma and Ozor Emeka Agumadu a.k.a Baby Awka.
Mohammed said efforts were being intensified to track down and arrest other fleeing gang members involved in the killings after which they would be prosecuted.
