The Anambra Police command has announced that it would ensure the protection of the lives and property of the relations of the minister for labour and employment Sen Chris Ngige at his home town Alor Idemili South Local government area.
This is coming as the local vigilance group in the town has strengthened security formations in the area in response to rumors that some unidentified persons were alleged to be laying seige to his country home.
It would be recalled that the National President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Mr Ayuba Wabba, had declared war on the family of the minister over the face-off between the labour union.
Speaking to reporters in Awka yesterday the police public relations officer Mr Mohammed Haruna directed the family members to make an entry at the nearest police station on the state of insecurity in the area adding that the command would provide adequate security in the community.
“The command will provide security at the ministers village and ensure that nothing happens there but they have to report to the nearest police station to the community,” he said.
At the moment, the local vigilance group of Alor community has commenced routine security operations in Alor community following rumors that some persons suspected to be labour officials have been laying seige to the minister’s country home.
“We call it rumour but we cannot leave any thing to chance as some people may cash in on the statements of the labour union to cause trouble.
“Besides he is our brother and we cannot allow this to happen in our community,” one of the vigilance group members who gave his name as Chinedu Nwankwo said.
When contacted on phone the Anambra state Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Jerry Nubia refused to pick his calls.
At the NLC office in Awka he was not available and no labour officer was seen to speak on the matter.
