Raymond Ozoji, Awka

Newly inaugurated president of Rotary Club of Awka GRA District 9142, Rotarian Izunna Somadina Okwelogu, has outlined some of the humanitarian services the organization will carry out under his watch for the 2020/2021 rotary year.

These activities amongst other things include purchase of wheelchairs for polio survivors, skill acquisition training for youths, free medical outreach in chosen remote communities, visitation of elderly homes and prison inmates, deworming of primary school children, provision of toilet facilities in some rural communities and a host other life-touching programmes.

Okwelogu who listed the aforementioned activities shortly after his inaugural ceremony in Awka, called for support from public-spirited individuals to enable the organization to actualise the said goals for the advancement and upliftment of humanity in general, stressing that no one has ever become poor by giving and donating to charity.

He said Rotary created opportunities for everyone to thrive and there was need for them to learn from one another, noting that it was incumbent on them to advance and protect Rotary for generations to come and that the ultimate goal was working towards focussing on the seven focal areas of sustainable development goals as Rotary impacted on various communities in the state.

Highpoints of the occasion were induction of new members into Rotary Club of Awka GRA District 9142 as well as awards conferred on some public-spirited individuals in the society for their exceptional contributions to improving the living conditions of the people through volunteer works, philanthropy and provision of basic infrastructures through humanitarian gestures.
