The State Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Anambra state, Dr. Webster Okonkwo, has announced the resurrection of the party from death.
Okonkwo said that the party has risen from death after 30 years and poised to reclaim its lost mandate in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
He said that SDP rose with a new brand of politics and this time, the party was determined to return power to the people. Okonkwo noted that a group of people hijacked power since 1999, giving the false impression that power belonged to the people.
The SDP state party chairman further explained that the type of politics SDP would be involved in was social justice and equality which true democracy encouraged, stressing that SDP was people-oriented.
He said SDP was not a party for moneybags but for the people, noting that the party resurrected in order to transform the political landscape of Anambra state.
Okonkwo however emphasized that SDP was not in the state to fight the government in power neither did it intend to assess any government in power but to project a new vision for Anambra state. He said SDP wanted democracy to get to the remotest village in the state.
He said whatever the government in power had achieved, the SDP would do better, saying that all the warring factions of SDP in Anambra state had been settled.
Okonkwo opined, “Social Democratic Party, Anambra state is determined to partner our people to ensure the emergence of a new, credible, functional and deep-rooted relationship for Anambra state with a view to harvesting in full the dividends of democracy and putting in place a socio-economic system that will be of benefit to all.”
