Another Fire Outbreak Hits Anambra

In the last few weeks, it has been one fire disaster or road crash or the other in Anambra state.
Today, the Federal Road Safety Commission in its traffic situation report, disclosed that another fire incident occurred at Oby Okoli street in Awka which destroyed many shops in the area.
The report had it that the cause of the inferno was due to a spark from an electric pole and affected the shop directly under the electric cable and from that point, the fire began to extend its conquest.
The FRSC report states, “There was a fire outbreak at Oby Okoli Avenue, by Club Road Junction. According to an eyewitness, the Fire started when a spark from the electric pole hit the roof of a shop.
“The Sector Commander, Anambra State Sector Command, CC Andrew A. Kumapayi called the Fire Service immediately he received the information and their timely arrival and intervention ensured the fire was extinguished and kept under control.
“The DPO ‘B’ Division of the NPF was also on ground at the scene. Operatives of the FRSC are controlling traffic at the moment.
The Sector Commander admonishes all to always have fire extinguishers handy, especially now that we are in the dry season.”
Shop owners affected by the inferno counted their losses as one of the victims who spoke in tears, said that the disaster has thrown her back into the labour market because all she had was razed down by it.
Meanwhile, the Chief Fire Officer of the Anambra State Fire Service, Engr. Martin Onyedikachukwu Agbili, declined comments on the fire incident as he did not respond to multiple phone calls to explain the agency’s level of response to the inferno.
