Nze Chidi Duru, a former member of the Federal House of Representatives and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has applauded Governor Willie Obiano’s 50-Year Development Plan.

Duru admitted that the credibility and viability of such a long term development initiative was not in doubt especially as the former Central Bank Governor Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo was at the helm of affairs of the 50-year development plan committee inaugurated recently.

Speaking with our correspondent at the weekend, the former representative of Aguata Federal Constituency at the Green Chambers, said expectations were that the committee would live up to its mandate of producing a roadmap which would be implemented for the benefits of Ndi-Anambra.

Although he described a development plan as a document that should be well crafted to reflect the peculiarities and aspirations of the people, the ex-national assembly lawmaker maintained that it was a step taken in the right direction but must be detached from the performance of the state government.

He said the thought of a development plan for Anambra was laudable but equally reeled out infrastructure, security, education, enabling business environment, wellbeing of citizens, inter-personal and community relations amongst numerous other items that should form the hallmark of such a development plan for the betterment of the citizenry.

Duru, who pointed out that he was not so sure if Governor Willie Obiano has met the expectations of the people, emphasized that the idea of a development plan was good for the economy, noting that the presence of Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo lent more credence to the project.

It would therefore be recalled that Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state had recently inaugurated a 50-year development plan committee with membership from all walks of life to fashion out a template for socio-economic and political development in Anambra state for the next 50 years.
