Atiku Calls For Immediate, Unconditional Release Of CUPP’s Spokesperson

Former Nigeria’s vice president, Atiku Abubakar, says the arrest of the spokesman of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), Barrister Ikenga Ugochinyere, “is tyrannical and inimical to a constitutional order.” He demand his immediate and unconditional release.
According to Atiku, “The arrest of Ugochinyere, despite a substituting court order, makes mockery of rule of law, a necessary ingredient of a democracy. It is unacceptable to us and many Nigerians who value democracy and human rights.
“Such action of the government at this time when our country is going through much stress and uncertainty, with citizen protests in some parts of the country, is not in anyone’s interest.
“Nigeria, despite all its shortcomings, remains and still looks forward to being referred to as a democracy. A democracy respects human rights and the rule of law rather than impunity and brigandage.”
