Raymond Ozoji, Awka
Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Awka-North state constituency seat in the 2019 general elections Hon. Rebecca Uzoamaka Nwata Udorji has said that her constituency is bereft of social amenities such as roads, hospitals, schools, electricity and a host of others necessary to improve the living conditions of her people.
She said while other local government areas were clamouring for internal roads, Awka-North was still begging for major connecting roads to link the entire council area to the local government headquarters at Achala.
Udorji who spoke with our correspondent in Awka on her second missionary journey to the Anambra State House of Assembly if elected in 2019, disclosed that two major road projects embarked upon by the Peter Obi administration in Awka-North had been abandoned. She said the roads were Amansea-Ebenebe – Oba Ofemili road and Okpuno-Mgbakwu-Amanuke-Achala road respectively.
The former lawmaker and House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Women Affairs and Social Development explained that apart from non-existent roads in her constituency, Awka-North has erosion areas which she believes that the state government cannot tackle single-handedly.
She further explained that as a member of the state assembly on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, she would be at a vantage position to prevail persistently on the national assembly through other APC representatives from the area to draw federal government attention to Awka-North pointing out that there is a limit to what the state government can do for her constituency as it concerns provision of public utilities as well as general infrastructural development in the area.
Udorji was therefore emphatic when she said that “one thing is to have the mindset to represent people in all honesty and it is another thing altogether to enrich one-self at the expense of your people.” She stressed that the time has come again for the people of Awka-North to take proactive decision especially as she would be a ranking member of the House, if given the mandate in 2019.
The former lawmaker who moved a motion for the establishment of a Child’s Right Commission in Anambra state in her first tenure, maintained that Awka-North deserved quality representation in the legislature.
She said through bills and motions, she would attract government presence to her constituency as well as continue to prevail on the Anambra State Government to complete major road projects and commence new projects so as to redeem Awka-North from political oblivion even as she expressed doubts that her constituency was still on the map of Anambra state.
Another salient point she raised was that through constituency townhall meetings and other fora, she would obtain first hand information on the most pressing needs of her constituents as well as present same to the legislature for onward delibrations and corresponding actions, stressing that she already has a comprehensive package of programme of development for the people of Awka-North as she prepares for her second coming to the legislature.
Udorji who also disclosed that she was currently the State Secretary Noble Women Buhari-Osinbajo Campaign Organization as well as the State Director Buhari Support Group, noted that APC was a national party and currently the ruling party in the country. She added that her constituency needed to key into the national party to address prominent constituency issues while assuring her people that she would make a significant difference in her second tenure even as she observed that Awka-North was still where she left it in 2015.
