Anambra State House of Assembly member-elect for Awka-North state constituency Hon. John Nwokoye says his constituency is the most backward and infrastructurally deficient local government area in Anambra state.
Nwokoye stated this while responding to questions from newsmen at Achala Awka-North local government area at the weekend.
He said, “Awka-North is the only local government that does not have access roads from the capital Achala. You pass through five local government areas which include Njikoka, Dunukofia, Oyi, Anambra-east before you get to Achala. A journey of five minutes will take you about two hours to achieve because of lack of access roads.”
Although Nwokoye took cognisance of the fact that Governor Willie Obiano has embarked on massive road construction in Awka-North, he was optimistic that before the end of the year, the local government would be transformed with link roads just as he said that he would prevail on the state government to complete all on-going road projects in area as well as prevail also on government to embark on new ones as Awka-North was part of the state capital.
He said the state governor has promised the people of Awka-North that he would construct the already abandoned Amansea, Ebenebe, Ugbenu, Oba-ofemili road, noting that his emergence as the lawmaker representing Awka-North constituency in the 7th assembly would usher in an era of massive infrastructural development in the area.
Nwokoye said his constituents voted en masse for him which enabled him to win the state assembly elections in Awka-North and pledged to reciprocate what his people did for him at the polls in the quality representation he would bestow on the constituency.
Although he observed also that Awka-North has not been well-represented in the state assembly, he stated his avowed commitment to make a remarkable difference as the member representing the constituency, emphasising that the status quo would change drastically in his local government area under his stewardship.
