- As Rapinoe wins FIFA’s Women’s Player of the Year award
Argentine star and Barcelona striker Lionel Messi has won the FIFA Men’s Player of the Year award.
The Argentina striker edged out Juventus’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk to win the award on Monday for the record sixth time.
In the women’s category, Megan Rapinoe won the Best FIFA Women’s Player award. She beat fellow World Cup winner Alex Morgan and England’s Lucy Bronze.
The 34-year-old Rapinoe led the United States to the defence of their World Cup title in France in the summer.
