The dreaded Covid19 virus has eventually found its way into Anambra state despite efforts made by the state government to prevent the scourge from entering the state.

Governor Willie Obiano had in a statewide broadcast on Saturday told the citizenry about the index case and the efforts his administration has made to ensure that the index case was isolated in one of the ultra-modern isolation centres where the person is currently receiving first class medical attention.

As a result, Governor Obiano issued a total lockdown order of the entire state, mandating the police and other security agencies to enforce the order with immediate effect to contain the menace.

However, the confusion that came with the Covid19 virus has sent panic into the air such that residents have become apprehensive of the recent development, expressing fear that the Easter celebration may be melancholic.

The state governor further allayed the fears of the citizens, assuring them that coronavirus won’t truncate Easter celebrations in the state, as he was working assiduously to contain the situation.

Governor Obiano’s Easter message amidst covid19 pandemic was contained in the release made available yesterday by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Emeka Ozumba.

The release reads in parts, “The Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano has stated that the threat of Coronavirus pandemic cannot take away the hope inherent in Easter celebrations that marks the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

“Governor Obiano made the declaration in a message contained in a Special Easter Broadcast to update ndi Anambra on measures taken by the government on Covid-19.

“The feast of Easter offers hope to mankind. In fact, we have a good opportunity to demonstrate the true meaning of Easter by reaching out to vulnerable people around us with love while maintaining the principles of Social Distancing. We can still share what we have with people without coming in contact with them.

“He emphasized the importance of Social Distancing at this time in the history of the state, and urged both the clergy and Christian faithful to exercise utmost restraint by avoiding any public gathering during this period.

“Governor Obiano also confirmed the record of one Coronavirus patient in spite of proactive measures taken by his government to shield the state and citizens from the pandemic.

“He therefore called on the citizens to adhere to the directives of government, stressing that all hands should be on deck to fight the Coronavirus.”
