Chukwunonso Noble Igwe, the lawmaker representing Ogbaru one state constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly has distributed palliative materials to all the wards in the area as part of measures to cushion the adverse effects of the sit-at-home oder occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic.
The distribution of the relief materials which took place in his constituency office at Okpoko, afforded the lawmaker ample opportunity to sensitise the people on the need to take precautions this period to avoid being infected with the coronavirus.
He said the relief materials consist of food items and beverages and he decided to assist his constituents with the palliatives because they were mostly low income earners who survived on daily income, noting that the lockdown of markets would bring untold hardship on them.
The lawmaker stressed that government directives on preventing the spread of Covid-19 was a welcome development and there was need for them to obey the directives as well as maintain personal hygiene by washing their hands regularly, and also maintaining social distance and avoid clustering of people.
Igwe also encouraged the people of Ogbaru one state constituency to make use of the hand sanitizers and other protective kits given to them, assuring them that all the markets in the constituency including vegetable market, Coca-Cola market, Ndida well market, ojoto market, Mogambo market, Elephant house market and others will all take delivery of the Covid19 prevention materials.
The lawmaker’s address during the distribution of food items in his constituency office reads, “I feel your pains, my heart bleeds because I know the lock down of markets will have devastating effect on my people.
“it is very excruciating for us all in this trying times of global pandemic. The threat of corona virus has brought an untold hardship to us.
“I understand that most of you survive on daily income basis. The closure of market and borders will in no small measure deal with us severely as prices of things skyrocket. The economic depression with no cushion effect as well as no access to daily income poses a great danger to us all.
“In these trying times, I plead with you to put your faith in God, manage the little resources you have judiciously knowing full well that it is just for a while.
“I implore those who have to extend a helping hand to the have nots. Together we shall conquer. Please maintain a high level of personal hygiene and social distancing.
“Always wash your hands, cover your nose, mouth regularly. Restrict and requlate your hang outs and movement. If possible, isolate for now to avoid this deadly corona virus.”
