The Federal Road Safety Corps Anambra state sector command has advised motorists in Anambra state to always carry out routine maintenance check on their vehicles to reduce avoidable crashes especially as the Easter celebration sets in.
Sector commander of the corps in the state Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, who gave the admonition in an exclusive interview with our correspondent in Awka, explained that it is important that motorists ensure that their vehicles are in good condition as the corps anticipates  an increase in both human and vehicular movements this Easter period.
Irelewuyi said if a vehicle is in good condition and the driver observes what he mentioned as defensive driving techniques, an accident can be avoided. He noted that the corps will continue to advocate for proper maintenance of vehicles especially heavy duty and articulated vehicles.
The sector commander also said the corps will continue to advocate that drivers should obey speed limits and not drive under the influence of alcohol or hard substances; obey traffic rules and regulations to avoid situations where their lives and safety will depend on the reactions of other road users.
He however maintained that the situation in Anambra state is that the FRSC is currently in talks with various associations of truck drivers and fleet operators for them to place more emphasis on vehicle maintenance as most crashes are caused due to brake failures and loss of control on the wheels.
