Election Violence: Suspected OPC Member Stoned In Lagos Not Dead

A suspected member of the Oudua People’s Congress (OPC) popularly named Demola, who was mobbed by irate voters in Ago Palace way, Lagos, for disrupting voting during last Saturday’s election has been confirmed to be alive.

A video showing Demola being hurled with stones went viral last Saturday and there were reports that he didn’t survive the ordeal. Residents in the area feared reprisals.

But in a recent clip, he was observed lying on a bed with blood-soaked bandage covering his head while receiving treatment after being rushed to the hospital.

During the presidential election yesterday, angry voters beat and stoned Demola who they accused of leading some thugs to invade polling units in the Ago Palace way, snatching many ballot boxes and burning the votes already cast.

Ago Palace Way is dominated by the Igbo. The thugs, armed with dangerous objects, had stormed different polling units in the area, chasing away voters, and ordering them to go to the East and vote; that Lagos is for APC.
