It was really a marvellous sight to behold as elites in Awka North and South LGAs came out massively to grace the launch of Soludo Promoters Forum (SPF), and the unveiling of Anambra Smart Megacity in Umudioka, Awka, Anambra state.
The whole atmosphere became electric as elites from the two local government areas started trooping in, in large numbers to witness the auspicious occasion.
The Convener of the event, Prof Collins Okafor, resplendent in a fitting corporate wear, expressed his joy and appreciation to the elites who came to grace the occasion.
He said he was highly elated to see professionals from different callings including the academia, Bankers, Lawyers, Engineers and accomplished businessmen and women in large numbers in one gathering.
The highly agile and dynamic Professor told his audience that the candidacy of Prof Charles Soludo for the forthcoming Anambra 2021 governorship election and the envisioned Smart Megacity for the state is one that requires the support of all Ndi Anambra
Prof Okafor therefore called on the elites to brace up and key into the robust vision of Soludo for the state.
He acknowledged the good job of the Promoters of SPF by specially commending the combined efforts of Joe Anatune, Leo Chiegboka, Andy Okafor and Prof Okey Ikeanyibe for their unrelenting campaigns in taking the SPF movement to all the LGAs of Anambra state.
He described the official launch of the SPF chapter in Umudioka, Awka and the unveiling of Anambra Smart Megacity plan as a major milestones in the political history of the two LGAs.
The chairman of the occasion, a renowned lawyer and businessman, Hon Pauly Onyeka, commended the spirit and unity of purpose displayed by elites in support of the candidacy and the vision of Soludo for Anambra state.
He opined that there is no other better time than now to have a person of Soludo’s experience and intellectual capacity to lead Anambra state into the burgeoning new world economy.
He emphasised that Awka is fully ready for Prof Soludo to throw his hat into the rings by declaring to contest the 2021 Anambra governor election.
As the event progressed, the reading of Soludo profile was beautifully rendered by Dr Kingsley Udegbunam, a lecturer of Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, to the admiration and appreciation of the audience.
Prof Charles Soludo in a Goodwill message to the organisers via the telephone, expressed his heart-felt gratitude to the attendees and the Promoters for their unflinching support for him.
The world acclaimed erudite Professor said he deeply appreciates all the energy, resources and time that have been expended in putting together this kind of enormous event.
He described the occasion as a new dawn in Anambra politics with the commitment shown lately and active participation of the elites from different professional background.
He remarked that the event was equally historic, stressing that the Nigeria civil war ended 50 years, and exactly 50 years after, Anambra state is working on Vision 2070 that will create a more dynamic state for the people in achieving their full potentials in life.
He added that everybody must be part and parcel in contributing to the growth of the state by making available talents and skills that will take the state to the next level.
Prof Soludo further stressed that Anambra state will be the “Island of Prosperity” very soon with the vision 2070 in place and the coming of the Smart Megacity that is bound to revoluntionize the state.
He opined that Ndi Anambra in the diaspora will be proud to return home and contribute their own quota to the development of the state.
“Our generation must leave Anambra better for the next generation,” Soludo said.
He again thanked everybody present at the event for their time, resources and support for him.
“I look forward to seeing you individually and collectively soon, so that we can all jointly turn Anambra state around together. On this note, I wish you all Merry Christmas and a Happy New year,” Soludo concluded
The Anambra Smart Megacity plan was also formally unveiled to the audience.
Mr Joe Anatune took time to explain the vision and the ultimate improvement it will bring to the lives of all Ndi Anambra.
A committee was also inaugurated and administered by Barrister Leo Chiegboka to drive the vision of SPF in the various towns and villages within the two local government areas. Among the committee members are Prof Collins Okafor, Prof Ken Obi, Kenneth Nwachukwu, Ossy Onuko and others.
Other eminent guests at the event also took turns to speak and eulogize Soludo candidacy.
Lady Barrister Oge Ekweozor (nee Nwobu) spoke glowingly about Soludo, saying all the women are solidly behind Soludo.
Prof Okey Ikeanyibe also gave an inspiring speech about Soludo and his robust vision for Anambra. He appealed to the audience to give their unalloyed Support to Prof Soludo.
Hon (Chief) Onwuzuka Lawrence Emeka (Ukpaka Achalla), a well-known youth leader, described Soludo as the right person and most qualified candidate to succeed Governor Willie Obiano. He assured that the youths are passionate about Soludo’s candidature and will give their full support from beginning to the end.
The event was eventually rounded off by the Chief Convener, Prof Collins Okafor, who expressed profound gratitude to all the attendees and the facilitators/Promoters who graced the epoch-making occasion for making the event a resounding success.
