The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has plans to partner and collaborate with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to ensure that drivers observe safety rules on the roads to reduce accidents these Ember Months in Anambra state.
Anambra state commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mr. Chikere Isidore Chukwudi who spoke with our correspondent in his office in Awka, said the partnership was necessary to ensure sanity on the roads especially now that people tend to be in a haste to achieve what they didn’t achieve since the beginning of the year.
The Commandant said, “We have plans of collaborating with Federal Road Safety Corps to make sure that people working to make it fast these Ember Months which normally result in accidents here and there; we have plans to make sure that drivers plying the roads observed basic rules.
“Also in these Ember Months, we have planned to set our men on patrol. They will be moving around to check hoodlums and to make sure that people sleep with their two eyes closed. Many bad things happen within this period but we try to see what we can do to curtail it to the barest minimum.
“Our men will be patrolling in the local government areas to check hoodlums who will be using this period to make fast money and to cause problems within the state. So we will do everything possible to curtail illegalities.”
The state NSCDC boss maintained that they were prepared to do all the necessary things they have to, to make sure that there is protection of lives and properties of the citizens of Anambra state. He also added that despite insecurity which he said is gradually coming down, he stressed that NSCDC was determined to make sure that the Ember Months were crime free.
Commandant Chikere Isidore pointed out that NSCDC would ensure that all the key national assets and critical infrastructures which he said were one of their core mandates to protect, would be protected from vandals while they also intensify patrols these Ember Months to clamp down on peddlers of adulterated products for quick money.
