Female Journalist Now President Rotary Club Awka Metropolis

The hall of Best Western Melock Hotel Awka was filled to the brim as people from all walks of life came to witness the installation of Rotarian Joy Ngozi Mbachi as the 8th inspirational president of Rotary Club Awka Metropolis.

It was indeed a colourful event as friends, families,  colleagues and well-wishers of RTN Joy Ngozi Mbachi relished the atmosphere of conviviality and socialisation as she was being decorated by the immediate past president RTN Benjamin Dibor amidst pomp and pegeantry.

In her presidential inaugural address, RTN Joy Ngozi Mbachi who is a staff member of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) described Rotary International as a global network of over 1.4 million professionals, business and community leaders who devoted their time, resources and talents towards addressing felt-needs of their communities as well as building goodwill and peace amongst all strata of people through a framework of friendship and service to humanity.

She said her joy knows no bounds for being selected for the most prestigious position of the president of Rotary Club Awka Metropolis out of the many industrialists as well as other numerous professionals in Awka metropolitan city, to serve as president adding that she would rely heavily on their unalloyed support, constructive criticism, friendly admonitions and professional guidance to enable her to succeed in her new assignment.

Mbachi therefore rolled out her work plan for the 2018-2019 Rotary year to include erection of a peace monument in Agu-Awka-Nibo Round about, to embark on peace advocacy visits to traditional rulers and religious leaders, to carry out a peace walk in order to celebrate Rotary International designated month for peace and world understanding, carry out oral health hygiene projects in schools for 500 indigent pupils in primary schools, embark on roll back malaria campaign and distribution of insecticide treated net at the towns affected by the recent flood outbreak.

Some other projects according to her are sinking of borehole water facilities in 3 rural communities, handwashing project in 10 secondary schools, provision of waste bins to 10 rural schools, provision of writing materials to indigent students and payment of WAEC fees for 20 indigent students, provision of skill acquisition for 20 indigent women and empowerment thereafter, provision of micro credits without interest to 10 indigent Nigerians to help boost their businesses, to mention a few of the humanitarian services Rotary Club Awka Metropolis has outlined for execution in the current year.

Although she noted that the tasks were daunting, she pointed out that through fruitful partnerships with a common vision of improving the society, the tasks would be carried out with befitting results in the end to make the world a better place to live in.
