It was a sorrowful Sunday on 12 December 2021 as a tanker laden with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) exploded at Chris-Tee filling station near Boromeo roundabout, Onitsha in Anambra state.
Though the remote cause of the explosion was not ascertained, the men of the State Fire Service and FRSC Rescue Team were said to be on ground working very hard to curtail the inferno.
According to the First Information Report on the fire incident as put together by the acting Sector Public Education Officer Margret Onabe, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State, Corps Commander Adeoye A Irelewuyi implored the public to be calm and patient, while the Fire Service battled the fire and prevented it’s escalation while the area has been cordoned off and traffic diverted.
According to an eye witness account, the fire started at CHRISTEE Gas plant and spread over to the two other nearby Fuelling Stations (CHRISTEE and SILVER Fuelling Stations).
The affected petrol stations were still in flames but the Fire Service team were on top of the situation working assiduously to put off the fire.
