The Federal Road Safety Commission says it will deploy over 500 officials to maintain presence at every entry point into Anambra State capital Awka during Governor Willie Obiano’s swearing-in cum inauguration ceremony on Saturday.
Disclosing the commission’s readiness for the exercise, Anambra sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission Mr.Sunday Michael Ajayi stated that it was necessary to increase presence for the exercise to enable the corps to achieve effective traffic management for the inauguration ceremony.
Ajayi said that the commission had taken cognizance of the magnitude of the traffic inflow into Anambra state due to the swearing-in ceremony but assured that they had deployed men and materials for the event to ensure sanity on the roads.
According to him, the inaugural ceremony is an important event of the Anambra state government after the governor’s victory at the polls as well as termination of his first term in office, pointing out that the corps has drawn its plans to ensure that there is no traffic stress even though he noted also that the commission required the cooperation of the motoring public for it to function optimally.
He further noted that it was a standing order from the national headquarters of the commission that the state command must ensure traffic sanity especially as it concerns the governor’s inauguration ceremony.
The sector commander who noted that the commission anticipates strict obedience to traffic signs as well as removal of obstructions from the roads, reiterated the commitment to reducing road mishaps on the highways while urging the motoring public to observe safety on the highways especially as the rainy season approaches.
