Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra has attributed the harsh economic strains in Nigeria currently as reasons why most young individuals find it difficult to get married.
The governor said this at the Church of Pentecost, Awka during a marriage ceremony between Chioma Okeoma Okoye and Frank Chinedu Maduka.
The bride Chioma is daughter of Bishop of Ihiala Diocese, Anglican Communion, and Rev. Prof. Israel Okoye while the groom, Frank was a former Chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Anambra State Council.
Gov. Obiano urged that couples should know ahead of the conjugal consummation that there were marital responsibilities to be faced; couples should know their roles and take the right steps in the right direction to make their marriage work.
The Governor was represented by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Ven. Amaechi Okwuosa.
In his sermon, the Bishop, Diocese of Awka, Most Rev. Alexander Ibezim, said marriage as an institution was ordained by God Almighty and must be obeyed.
Quoting Ephesians, 5:21-28, Bishop Ibezim advised the couple to submit to one another while stressing that many men were developing high blood pressures because of difficulties in society.
He, however, advised the couple to practice one religion to keep their union and depend solely on God.
The solemnisation ceremony was presided over by Archbishop Metropolitan and Primate of all Nigeria His Grace the Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba.
The event was attended by political bigwigs, uniformed organisations, prominent men and women including former Governors of Anambra State Mr Peter Obi and Dame Virgy Etiaba. (MOI)
