I Deserve Second Term In Office, Says Anambra Lawmaker, Ibuzo

The lawmaker representing Onitsha-North 2 Constituency, Hon Edward Ibuzo, says he deserves a second term in office. Below is the full text of his account of stewardship:

My good people of Onisha-North 2 state constituency, it is a thing of joy and jubilation that we all have gathered here today to witness my solemn declaration to contest for a second term in the 2019 general elections. I had earlier submitted a letter of interest to my ward indicating my burning desire for a second chance in the State House of Assembly to enable me institute more developmental projects for the good people of Onitsha-North 2 state constituency, if given the mandate.

Before I dabble into the nitty-gritty of the account of my stewardship in the first tenure, permit me to express my profound gratitude and solidarity you all gave me in 2015 when we embarked on this journey. My people, you all stood by me ensuring that your votes were counted and guarded jealously; which led to my landslide victory in the State House of Assembly Elections for Onitsha-North 2 State Constituency Seat. You all supported me diligently. My people such support will also be very instrumental in my second term bid as we perform this declaration ceremony today. It is of paramount importance to note that the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) remains the only viable and veritable political party in Nigeria with good intentions for the citizenry. To this end, I make bold to say that I belong to APGA now and forever maka na nka bu nka anyi!!

Having saluted your courage, steadfastness and confidence reposed in me these few years, I, Hon. Edward Obiefuna Ibuzo, hereby tender my account of stewardship in the last three years as member representing Onitsha-North 2 state constituency in the 6th Anambra Legislature. Shortly after we won the election in April 2015, I travelled to Germany where I was diagnosed of brain tumour and had a major surgery in the brain but narrowly escaped death. My people, I struggled between life and death for a year and six months due to ill-health but recuperated thereafter and commenced the business of legislation and representation of my constituency in the state assembly.

We had a thanksgiving ceremony coupled with an empowerment programme where my constituents took delivery of life-enhancing kits and equipment to enable them fend for themselves and their families. The ceremony was conducted by Governor Willie Obiano on October 11, 2016 and some persons were given grinding machines, sewing machines, bags of Anambra rice, generators and clippers to mention just a few. In 2017, I secured jobs as well as facilitated the employment of my constituents into the state civil service and some other spheres with the sole aim of providing them means of livelihood and to enhance their living conditions.  My constituency health intervention programmes saved many souls from untimely deaths. I have been attending to the medical and health needs of my constituents since 2016 . I travelled to Germany and bought a mobile clinic van which I have used to traverse the nooks and crannies of my constituency providing medical aid till date.

I equally run a clinic every Thursday in my constituency office where qualified doctors and nurses have continually attended to the health needs of my people. These medical services however were administered free of charge to improve on the health index of my constituency. Gentlemen and ladies, another remarkable intervention of my stewardship is in the area of youth empowerment and capacity building. I launched a computer training programme for youths in my constituency in 2016. The aim of the aforementioned programme is to educate as well as equip youths with relevant computer skills and technical know-how for self-reliance and sustenance. My people, over 70 youths of Onitsha-North 2 state constituency have graduated from my computer school. At every graduation ceremony, I empower three most outstanding students with computer sets and start-up grants to enable them deploy their skills profitably and otherwise. Be that as it may, I provide grants-in-aid to some of my constituents who operate beer-parlours and other leisure centres to boost their businesses. Also, in line with my poverty alleviation schemes and human capital development   , I bought automobiles for my constituents to boost their income base.

My constituency outreach also takes me to the Onitsha prisons where I carry out sensitisation visits as well as assist the prison authorities to disinfect the prison yard and cells from infection and provide comprehensive health clinic to inmates periodically. I provide computer skills for prison inmates to help facilitate work and learning while in custody. Presentation of food items, toiletries and other consumables to Onitsha prisons on periodic bases cannot be over-emphasized. Furthermore, my interventions in infrastructural development stand out in Onitsha-North 2 state constituency. It may interest us to note that the bridge linking Onitsha prisons road at Akpaka was on the verge of collapse when I assumed office. However my attention was drawn to the sorry state of the bridge by the controller of Onitsha prisons and after a wide consultation with the state government, the bridge was restored via my instrumentality. I also undertook the renovation of toilets and construction of borehole water facilities at Woliwo primary school 1& 2 Onitsha as well as revamping of borehole facilities at New Bethel primary school and also water facilities at Onitsha-North health centre currently functional. Renovation and construction of health centre Akpaka Onitsha.

My people, it would be a gross disservice to the constituency, if I fail to mention that the constituency benefited immensely from Governor Willie Obiano’s administration .To this end, Onitsha main market benefited from the ten million naira grant of the state government which was deployed in the building of the health centre. Also Ose market got ten million naira from the state government which it used to build Ose park to decongest the area of traffic. All these were achieved under my watch as the lawmaker representing Onitsha-North 2 state constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly. Apart from the foregoing, the road by Akpaka leading to 33 Onitsha which has been a nightmare to my people was recently being attended to by the state government. I made a vow to my people during the campaign for Governor Willie Obiano’s second term bid that if the state government did not commence work on the road before 2019, they should vote me out. Ladies and gentlemen, I am happy to inform you that construction works have started on the road. Thanks to the governor who always listens whenever I cry to him about the pressing needs of my constituency .I have also written memo to the governor concerning the absence of motorable roads at ward 15 Woliwo and in no distant time, the governor will respond to the situation accordingly. My interventions at Sapiensa Road Trans-Nkisi , Ezenwa road , Ajasa road , Allen street , marine road by Ose market , streetlight project at Ridge road GRA Onitsha and a host of other on-going projects , speaks volume of the liver I have to deliver more developmental projects in Onitsha-North 2 state constituency, if re-elected.

I wish to inform you all that I am the only lawmaker in the 6th assembly with a functional constituency office which gives my constituents unhindered and unlimited access to me. My constituency office has been very active in the last three years operating from Monday to Friday every week. My people, it is for this reason that I seek your support once again as I make this solemn declaration today to run for a second term of office. Together, we can .We will, as reward for hard work is more work.

Long Live Onitsha-North 2 State Constituency
Long Live Anambra State
Long Live The Federal Republic Of Nigeria

Hon. Edward Obiefuna Ibuzo
Member Representing Onitsha-North 2 State Constituency
