Owelle Onyeka Mbaso, the pioneer chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the United Kingdom and Senior Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Political Matters, has declared his interest to contest for the post of the State Chairman of APGA in Anambra.
Mbaso said that if elected the next state chairman of APGA in the party’s forthcoming national convention, he would liberate the party from what he described as poor leadership at the state level.
The APGA chieftain who disclosed his intention to slug it out with other prospective contenders for the chairmanship position to our correspondent in Awka on Wednesday, also emphasized the need for the post of the state chairman to be zoned to Anambra-South senatorial district to enable the zone to complete its remaining four years in accordance with the party’s constitution.
The UK-based APGA stalwart who contested for the Federal House of Representatives in the last national assembly elections for Nnewi-south, Nnewi-North and Ekwusigo federal constituency, said he has offered himself to liberate APGA from its current quagmire.
According to him, “I have all it takes to unite and move our great party forward. Our party is at the brink of extinction and needs experienced politician like me to calm down the nerves of aggrieved members. This is the moment of truth for our members that have been betrayed from the APGA primaries.”
He described himself as a good candidate for the position of the state chairman of APGA in Anambra, stressing that he single-handedly coordinated the Diaspora support for APGA and that it wouldn’t be completely out of place should APGA members and party stakeholders lend the same measure of support for him at the party’s convention to enable him to emerge as the new state chairman that would turn the fortunes of the party around.
Mbaso however recalled that as the founder of APGA UK and the liaison officer to the late Dim Ikemba Odumegwu Ojukwu, he proved his mettle as having the requisite credentials and qualifications to make APGA grow in leaps and bounds at the state level and beyond.
He reaffirmed his position that if elected the next APGA state chairman in Anambra, his tenure would unite all aggrieved members of the party as well as enthrone vibrancy in the running of the party.
