The lawmaker representing Nkanu-East state constituency in the 7th Enugu State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Paul Osondu Nnajiofor has said that he won’t fight Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, instead he would strive to support his policies and programmes to ensure that his constituency has a fair share of democratic dividends.
Nnajiofor who stated this at a reception ceremony organised in his honour at Zodiac hotel Enugu shortly after his inauguration for a second term in office as the lawmaker representing Nkanu-East at the 7th legislature, recalled that the 6th assembly was eventful but emphasized that he would re-double his efforts this time to ensure that Nkanu-East witnessed practical infrastructural developments.
He said, “In the last four years, we have been able to go through the rudiments of legislative business. Now we will leverage on the gains of the first term to ensure that the cordial working relationship between the executive and the legislature is sustained.”
Nnajiofor maintained that legislative engagements did not imply that the 7th state assembly would fall out with the executive arm of government but to ensure that there is understanding and cooperation between the executive and the legislature for both to work in concert to move Enugu state to greater heights.
He stated, “We must support the Governor, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in his determination to ensure that peace, progress and development is in Enugu State. He is a good man. He is my leader, my boss and I am grateful that he has taught us how to be humble and how to empower our people.”
According to the lawmaker, there is need to be in constant relations with the people because the mandate belongs to them, noting that areas that required rural roads, the lawmaker would lobby to ensure that road infrastructure existed in such remote places.
He said as the member representing Nkanu-East state constituency in the 7th Enugu State House of Assembly, he would bestow priority attention on skill acquisition, human and educational development, health as well as inter-community advocacy noting that he would equally sustain the bursary and educational support initiative he started in his first term.
Nnajiofor also imformed that he would sustain and expand his free medical outreach programme because he believed that the people of Nkanu-East needed good healthcare services while expressing hope that the bills to be passed into law as the 7th legislature progresses, would be bills that would better the lives of the people.
His major achievements in his first term according to him were the sponsorship of three bills and six motions as well as the construction of Amechi-Idodo road among numerous others while urging the people of Nkanu-East to be patient with the governor as well as support his programme of development for the entire state especially Nkanu-East local government area where he noted that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has already beamed his searchlight for practical infrastructural developments.
