Ihiala Makes History As Soludo Wins 2021 Anambra Governorship Election

It would be recalled that the governorship election held in Anambra state on 6th November, 2021 was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) because election was cancelled in Ihiala local government area and some other locations across the state due to unforeseen contingencies.
The INEC Returning Officer for the 2021 Anambra State Governorship Election Professor Florence Obi however scheduled a supplementary election for Ihiala council area on Tuesday 9th November, 2021.
Although the APGA candidate Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo was already on a landslide victory leading in 18 out of the 21  local government areas of the state, INEC felt the election would be incomplete and inconclusive without results from Ihiala.
Hence, a supplementary election was conducted peacefully and Ihiala proved its mettle by giving over 90% votes to the All Progressives Grand Alliance like other local government areas which eventually saw the declaration of Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo as the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly and Chairman Campaign Council for APGA/Soludo/ Ibezim in Ihiala local government area, Rt. Hon. Dr. Paschal Agbodike told journalists at St. Augustine Secondary School Mbosi where he exercised his franchise,  that Mbosi and the entire Ihiala were APGA.
Agbodike, who also doubles as the lawmaker representing Ihiala 2 state constituency in the legislature, said although it is true that some people often exhibit near violent attitudes during elections, he believes that Anambra is a peaceful state and that Ihiala has equally demonstrated that it is a peaceful council area too.
The Deputy Speaker stated that what transpired in his community showed that the election was violent-free and the machines used by INEC officials for the exercise didn’t disappoint, adding that Ihiala has made  history with the supplementary election.
Moreso, the Director Media and Communications Soludo Campaign Council, who is also the State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment Mr. C. Don Adinuba who spoke with newsmen at Ihiala local government secretariat, noted that the supplementary election was generally peaceful amidst watertight security.
Adinuba, who is a native of Umuezeawala in Ihiala local government area, explained further that the turnout was exceedingly impressive, far more than what the opposition elements expected, stressing that the exercise was transparent and happy that Ihiala people have lived up to their reputation as amongst the most peaceful and orderly people in Anambra state.
He said no incidents of violence was recorded except security breaches involving some non-state actors around Lilu and Orsumoghu but were repelled by security agents.
According to him, only APGA campaigned across the state and Ihiala would produce the highest percentage of votes for Professor Soludo and the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
