Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for Anambra-central in the February 16th national assembly elections Comrade Tony-Uche Ezekwelu has said if elected as the senator representing Anambra-central senatorial district at the Red Chambers, he would initiate bills that will prohibit public office-holders from seeking medical attention abroad.
He said as a senator he would also initiate bills that would prevent children of senators as well as other public office-holders from attending schools overseas. These according to him would help pay priority attention to the health, education and other sectors of the nation’s economy.
Ezekwelu who stated this at a press conference in Awka on Friday during the presentation of his manifesto and campaign promises to the constituents of Anambra-central, said his mission to the national assembly was to provide a landmark representation that would serve as a reference point for posterity.
He observed that Nigeria was not Independent yet due to its overdependence on imported products stressing that there was need to adjust the nation’s local content policy to prohibit importation of things that can be produced in the country.
The ADC senatorial candidate also emphasized the need for government to make conscious efforts in initiating delibrate policies and programmes that support entrepreneurship, scholarship and youth advancement noting that Nigeria was currently facing economic retardation because of the way it was structured.
He said as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he would pursue national cohesion with particular emphasis on regional autonomy stressing that the country needed regional federation to maximize it’s economic potentials just as he suggested that there should be a constitutional provision for referendum.
According to him, if there was referendum in the constitution, Boko Haram will not ravage the Northeast, there won’t be any form of agitation in the Niger Delta region and of course IPOB activities in the southeast of the country won’t be in existence.
