A non governmental organization, Street Aid Africa Foundation, SAAF, has joined forces with URUM Development Union in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra state to distribute clothings, sanitary pads and other items to over 80 persons in the community.
The leader of the team in Anambra state, Miss Divine Alex, said the organization focuses on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals which she said was to provide education and empowerment for children.
Miss Alex said the items distributed were donated by good spirited individuals after the founder of the NGO, Nancy Nwosu, showed interest in that regard.
According to her, the aim was to cloth people in rural communities who do not have the financial capacity to acquire those items from the market.
Other programmes of the NGO initiative include: Feed the Street, Impact School Outreach, Voiceless Conference for Amplifying Socially and Sexually Sensitive Issues and Pad Drive for Female Adolescents.
The President General of Urum Community, Chief Honorable Alloy Tabansi who alongside his deputy, Mr Anthony Akachukwu, received the team at Urum civic center, described the gesture as laudable.
According to him, at a time in the country when feeding has become a great challenge to many rural households, an NGO remembering to share clothes and wears to the people was highly commendable.
According to the President General, while the people struggled to find food to sustain their living, getting free clothing will no doubt ameliorate their situation and make them mingle with others with pride.
He commended Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s efforts in delivering road infrastructures in Anambra state especially Awka North Local government area even as he appealed for attention to the Isuaniocha-Urum-Amanuke to Ugbene road which also connects the people with Achalla their local government headquarters.
Honorable Tabansi noted that Urum as an agrarian town that make up Awka capital territory, was looking forward to benefiting Infrastructural development from the governor Chukwuma Soludo-led administration.
Some of the beneficiaries including Mrs Ifeoma Ndumanya, Godfrey Oranye, Ephraim Udeozor and Amarahi Nwoye who were full of gratitude to Street Aid Africa Foundation, SAAF, for remembering them, also thanked the leadership of the town union for approving and letting such gesture get to them for free.
Each of the beneficiaries got up to six to seven items ranging from gowns, skirts, blouses, shirts, trousers, hand bags, sun shades, shoes and a host of other items.
