The traditional ruler of Umueri kingdom in Anambra-East local government area of Anambra state, His Royal Majesty Sir Benneth Izuchukwu Emeka Okebo II, says those saying that Governor Willie Obiano has done nothing in the last five years are only being economical with the truth.
He said anyone who held such opinion about the governor was not being fair to him because the governor in his estimation had done tremendously well in administering Anambra state.
Speaking with our correspondent in his palace while doing an appraisal of the governor’s five years in office, the traditional ruler noted that the governor has done a lot of infrastructural development in the state especially as it concerned the security architecture.
He recalled that previously people no longer returned to their home state to conduct their traditional marriage ceremonies due to insecurity but that since the assumption of office of Dr. Willie Obiano, the security situation has improved immensely as people now come back for one traditional ceremony or the other describing the improvement on security as a welcome development.
The traditional ruler also took cognisance of the massive improvement in agriculture, stressing that Anambra state now export some food items like vegetables and some others. He said that in road infrastructure, the governor has equally done tremendously well for the people of Anambra state, creating roads into the interior communities and villages.
He further explained that as a road contractor and Managing Director of New Idea Construction Company, he has built about six roads under Governor Willie Obiano totalling over twenty-five kilometers in the last five years adding that the roads are very much on ground in Nando, Umueri, Nteje and Umunya respectively.
According to him, all the roads built in Nando were done by his construction company. He noted that it began with ex-governor Peter Obi whom he said constructed about 4.1 kilometer roads but Obiano, according to him, has surpassed his predecessor, constructing more than 15 kilometer roads in the area. He therefore added that Obiano’s administration has done more than expected in road infrastructure, agriculture, security, health and what have you.
The traditional ruler however challenged all those discrediting Governor Willie Obiano to criticise him constructively with verifiable facts and figures and not malicious damage of his personality and office because his efforts in the provision of road networks and other social amenities were clear even as he said that his community Umueri could not deny the presence of the new dispensation in Anambra state.
