Lockdown: Two Shot Dead As Police Engage Irate Youths In Anambra

It was mere anarchy yesterday at Nkpor near Onitsha Anambra state, as two persons were allegedly shot dead by police patrol team enforcing lockdown order in the area.

Though information from the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed revealed that the incident was caused by an unprovoked attack on Police patrol team with substance suspected to be acid by some miscreants even as he disclosed further that the errant youths tried to snatch some rifles from the police operatives.

The PPRO said efforts were  ongoing to restore sanity in the area and that the commissioner of police CP John Abang has ordered a discreet investigation into the remote reason the protest took place in the first instance.

Meanwhile, the total lockdown in Anambra state has recorded its first casualty as the protest led to the shooting of a young boy of 20 years right in front of new tyre market Nkpor near Onitsha at about 1:30pm yesterday.

Newsmen gathered that police shot sporadically and two persons lost their lives. While one died instantly, the other was rushed to the hospital but gave up the ghost before they got to the hospital.
