A non-governmental organization known as G23 has urged Ndigbo at home and in the diaspora to invest in President Muhammadu Buhari and desist from relegating themselves to the background.
The independent organization posited that Ndigbo should rally round the president and ensure his re-election in 2019 to pave way for an Igbo president in 2023.
Chief convener of the group Engr. JohnBosco Onunkwor who addressed newsmen at Old English hotel Awka about the mission and purpose of G23, said the group aims at promoting the intent and purposes of the Buhari administration in the Southeast zone as well as root for his re-election in the region.
Onunkwor said in spite of the loathsome attitude of Ndigbo towards the Buhari administration, he maintained that the Southeast region has been great beneficiaries of the present federal government in terms of appointments.
The Anambra-born convener of the G23 noted that Ndigbo have the ministries of labour and employment, trade and investment, education and a host of others pointing out that it was time the Southeast region embraced mainstream politics.
Onunkwor also explained that the Yoruba nation invested in President Buhari and got juicy ministries such as power, housing, works, communication, finance and what have you stressing that the Southwest took ample time to invest in as well as gave him votes which catapulted him to presidency. He added that it would not be of good conscience should president Buhari abandon those who worked tirelessly for his victory at the polls; that there is no sentiments in politics.
The G23 chief convener who was a former governorship aspirant observed also that the Southeast has had five senate presidents and according to him, those five senate presidents plied the Enugu-Onitsha, Enugu-Port Harcourt and other highways In the region but none of them bothered to initiate action to fix the deplorable conditions of the roads, instead they flew choppers and private jets to their villages.
Onunkwor however said that after many long years of abandonment, the Buhari administration came to the rescue and began to fix Enugu-Onitsha, Enugu-Port Harcourt roads; signed the Umunya exit of the Onitsha-Enugu federal highway, continued work on the second Niger Bridge, working on Okigwe-Arondizogu expressway together with other numerous federal projects on-going and completed in the Southeast geo-political zone. He stressed that Ndigbo should support president Buhari’s re-election for the betterment of the zone.
On his part, the co-convener of the G23 Group Ife Roland congratulated the minister for transport Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi on his re-appointment as the Secretary cum Director-General of Buhari Campaign Organization, noting that G23 Group would work under the Buhari Campaign Organization to ensure that they delivered Southeast for president Buhari in 2019.
