NDLEA Intensifies War Against Drug Traffickers In Anambra

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says it has intensified war against drug peddlers in Anambra state to put a stop to movement and consumption of illicit drugs in the state.
The agency’s resolve to intensify its clampdown on illicit drug bearers came on the heels of the agency’s arrest of 249 suspects. Apart from the arrest, the NDLEA equally seized 426,5988kg of hard drugs from suspects and convicted 37 persons just last year.
Briefing newsmen at the command headquarters in Awka on Tuesday, the state commander Misbahu Idris gave a breakdown of the enforcement activities of the agency in 2019.
Idris said the following hard substances were seized at various locations in Anambra state. He said the substances included  Cannabis sativa​​ 356.9927 kg, Cocaine​​​0.00223 kg, Heroine 0.063 kg and  Crystalline meth​​69.0308 kg.
The NDLEA boss in the state noted that the command also got 37 convictions and has 124 pending cases in the Federal High Court, Awka and the court of appeal, Enugu respectively.
He however applauded the support of the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano, in the fight against drug trafficking, abuse and insecurity in the state.
He also warned those involved in illicit drug activities to desist from it or face the full wrath of the law.
