Dr. Okwudili Ezenwankwo an aspirant for Orumba-North and South Federal Constituency in the 2019 general elections has decried the activities of the officials of the Nigeria Customs Service saying it’s only in Nigeria that custom officials extort money from traders.
Ezenwankwo who made the statement at the All Progressives Grand Alliance secretariat Awka on Wednesday while declaring his intention to represent Orumba-North and South federal constituency at the national assembly if elected, remonstrated further that customs officials in the country frustrate the efforts of business men and women through illegitimate and illegal levies he described as extortions.
He said if the Nigeria Customs Service was out to carry out its statutory duties, it should do so at the borders, airports, wharfs, seaports and a host of other places and not intercepting containers along the roads only to extort money from them illegally adding that in developed countries customs officials carry out their duties at designated places.
The oil and gas magnate who said he would be a strong voice at the National Assembly if elected, stressed that he would protect the interest of the Nigerian business community through effective representation and legislation.
He said he came to make promises that he would fulfill for the people of Orumba-North and South federal constituency and also change the political face of the area stressing that successive representatives from the constituency didn’t meet the expectations of the people.
Ezenwankwo however assured the people of Orumba-North and South that if given the mandate in 2019, he would address erosion menace through effective legislation as well as attract federal government presence to the constituency coupled with ensuring that democracy dividends trickled down to the downtrodden in Orumba-North and South federal constituency.
