The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has told Nigerians that the country is headed for its waterloo if the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains in government after the presidential election slated for February 16 this year.
The party made the pronouncement at Emmaus house Awka during a rally on Thursday. It alleged that the ruling APC government has brought hunger and privation upon Nigerians in the three years of its dictatorship.
Chairman Atiku/Obi Campaign Council, Mr. Oseloka Henry Obaze, said during the rally that Nigerians were in search of leaders that would rescue the nation from its current socio-economic and political morass. He said that the ruling APC government has failed Nigerians in every regard and that Nigeria needs a purposeful leadership to redeem it from the present climate of confusion and disappointments.
Obaze opined that the country is challenged, polarized and that insecurity has worsened. He pointed out that there is hunger in the land and that unemployment is growing in leaps and bounds such that Nigeria has been ranked as the world’s poverty capital.
According to him, trust and patriotism were currently in the decline and that Nigerians needed a new government that would be responsive and accountable to the people. He stressed that the stark reality was that “if Nigerians fail to vote out the ruling APC government, Nigeria will be doomed. We must return Nigeria to the cause of true justice rule and equity.”
He also advised those not supporting Peter Obi’s candidature to retrace steps and join the winning team. He fervently urged them to join in the birth of a new Nigeria emphasising that “those who repudiate Peter Obi today, must remember that they repudiate Igbo interest. They should remember also that if they are not willing to support Igbo vice president today, if tomorrow comes and it is their turn, they will also understand if people do not support them.”
Obaze observed that great opportunity beckons to redress great injustice, implicit marginalisation, missed opportunities and to get Nigeria working again stressing that Atiku/Obi represent the urgent change Nigeria needed to rescue the entire nation from the catastrophic leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
In the same vein, former Governor of Anambra state and vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mr. Peter Obi stressed that the PDP would build a better Nigeria where the emphasis would be on job and wealth creation for all Nigerians. He also reiterated the fact that there is hunger in the country and that Nigerians were being slaughtered like chickens.
He however stated very strongly that if he becomes the Vice President, the deplorable Onitsha-Enugu dual carriage way would be completed in six months, stressing that PDP is poised to build a better Nigeria.
Former Aviation minister Chief Osita Chidoka in his speech noted that for three years now, there is no Igbo person in the security council of the federation. He observed that Northerners were everywhere heading virtually all federal government agencies, departments and parastatals, pointing out that Ndigbo are the biggest beneficiaries when Nigeria works well and also the worst hit when the country is not working.
On his part, the chairman sub-committee Atiku/Obi Campaign Organization and former commissioner for lands Anambra state Barr. Chibunna John Okoli Akrika said the rally was organized to honour Peter Obi as the vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and equally to showcase to Ndi-Anambra that PDP has been rebranded and repositioned to win elections without hitches.
Akrika said that PDP has men and materials to win the 2019 general elections. The state chairman of the party in Anambra Hon. Collins Nwobu said the party would sweep the polls in the state as well as deliver Atiku/Obi in the state.
The rally also marked the formal reception of Mr. Godwin Ezeemo of PPA, Nollywood actor Yul Edochie and a host of others into the Peoples Democratic Part.
