Sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra state, Mr. Andrew Ayodele Kumapayi, says about nine persons narrowly escaped death when a bus and a Sport Utility Vehicle had a head-on collision near Igbariam junction Onitsha-Enugu Expressway.
Kumapayi’s statement was contained in the First Information Report of the accident which was made available to Journalists by the Sector Public Education Officer, Mr. Kamal Musa.
He sympathized with the injured victims as well as wished them quick recovery and also admonished motorists to drive with extra-caution this Yuletide and thereafter.
The sector commander’s FIR reads thus: “At about 1030hrs this morning 2nd December, 2020, nine people got injured in a serious road traffic crash involving a Toyota hiace bus belonging to Onitsha South Transport Company with registration number BDG 313 XQ and a Lexus Jeep with registration number AWK 71 EX occurred at Igbariam, opposite Micado Factory along Awka- Nteje- Onitsha Expressway.
“Eyewitness report reaching us indicates that the crash occurred as a result of excessive speeding and wrongful overtaking. It involves a total of Eighteen (18) people comprising (11) male adults and (7) female adults. Nine people (5) male adults and (4) female adults who sustained varying degree of injuries and were rushed to FRSC Clinic Nteje by the rescue team from Nteje Unit Command while obstructions were cleared. No life was lost.”
