NLC Wants Ngige Dead — Group

Raymond Ozoji, Awka

The attack on the residence  of the minister of labour and employment, Sen Chris Ngige, has drawn the anger of the Idemili Partriotic Forum which has alleged that there is a plot to assassinate him by the millitant arm of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC.

It would be recalled that the labour union made bold its threat to picket the minister over the delay in the establishment of the Social Insurance Trust Fund by storming his residence in Abuja which turned bloody.

Speaking shortly after its meeting in Awka yesterday the spokesman of the body, Mr Sylvester Okoye, said that the attack on their brother was executed because he is an Igbo man.

He said their attention has been drawn to the plot by the National leadership of the NLC to assassinate their brother in the name of unionism, adding that the reason given by the labour leader for the attack on their kinsman was unbelievable and a cover up to assassinate the minister.

“We the people of Idemili Partriotic Forum have been watching the avalanche of attacks on our brother since he became a minister of the federal republic and what he has passed through in the hands of the Nigerian Labour Congress led by Ayuba Wabba.

“We are also aware of the campaign of calumny and name dropping against our brother in the discharge of his duties and this is a prelude towards eliminating our brother.

“Be it known today that the life of our brother Sen Chris Ngige is in the hands of the National Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Mr Wabba.”

Okoye noted that for Wabba to have led a gang of alleged assassins to storm the residence of Ngige was a clear indication that he wanted the minister dead.

“We call on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Inspector General of Police to take immediate action on the assassination attempt on our brother by the killer squad of the labour leader,” he added.

He also contended that the body would no longer tolerate any further attempt on the life of the minister.
